ICOS is a 47–57 kDa costimulatory molecule homologous to CD28/CTLA-4 and is expressed on activated T cells and a subset of thymocytes. Engagement of ICOS enhances T cell proliferation, promotes cytokine production such as IL-4 and IL-10, and plays an important role in humoral immunity and Th2 cell differentiation.
